MCE Project is an interdisciplinary project of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, involving the Faculties /Schools of Philosophy and Theology.
MCE Project grew from the academic research of two professors of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, Juan Andrés Mercado and Martin Schlag, who realized the potential of collaboration upon the common and complementary elements therein. Sergio Destito, General Secretary of Academic Affairs at the University, is the managerial head of the Project. Jennifer Miller and Marta Rocchi also comprise an essential part of the Project, the former as a doctoral student of theology and the latter as secretary. Below are brief biographies of these Project members.

Msgr. Prof. Martin Schlag, Academic Director
Born in New York City in 1964, the Msgr. Prof. Schlag is both an American and an Austrian citizen. He holds doctorates in law (1989) and theology (1998) from the University of Vienna. Practicing in both of these fields, he was ordained to the priesthood in 1996. He continued pastoral work in Vienna until 1998 when he became a professor of the Social Doctrine of the Church at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross.
Prof. Juan Andrés Mercado, Academic Vice Director
Born in Mexico City in 1967, Juan Andrés Mercado earned a degree in philosophy at the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City in 1989. After having completed his doctorate in Philosophy for the Ecclesiastical Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Navarre in Pamplona, Spain in 1991, in 2001, he was awarded a doctorate in philosophy by the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy at Navarre with a thesis on David Hume. He began his teaching career as an associate professor of ethics and introductory philosophy at the Universidad Panamericana in Guadalajara, where he worked from from 1991 to 1993. In June 1996, he taught for the first time at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, as a lecturer of the history of modern philosophy. Since October 2002, he has been an adjunct professor of History of Modern Philosophy at the University. Prof. Mercardo also holds the title of visiting professor at IPADE Business School in Mexico City.

Mr. Sergio Destito, Executive Manager
Mr. Sergio Destito is the General Secretary of Academic Affairs at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. He holds a degree in law from the La Sapienza University in Rome as well as a Masters in Management and Business Strategy and a Masters in Marketing Management. Before his time at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, he worked in diverse national and multinational corporations. He is the Executive Manger for the MCE Project.

Miss Jennifer E. Miller, Assistant in Church Social Doctrine
Jennifer Miller is a member of the MCE Project as well as assistant to Prof. Martin Schlag. She has taught moral theology at the Aquinas Institute (Lafayette, Louisiana) and also worked as a professor for the Christendom College Rome Campus. Currently pursuing a doctorate in moral theology, her thesis investigates Amartya Sen’s capabilities approach in the light of the principle of subsidiarity, specifically addressing its neglect of the family.

Miss. Marta Rocchi, Secretary
Marta Rocchi holds a degree in economics from the La Sapienza University in Roma. She is completing her Masters in political economy at the same university while working as a free-lance journalist. She organizes the secretariat and associated events for the MCE Project.
